Locally a Chicago church was sued for mismanagement of assets and refusing to open the church's books to its members. Suzanne Penn, President of Christian Financial Ministries will be presenting the Lifetime Achievment Award to Rev Dr Willie Taplin Barrow. (Dr Barrow, a national social activist is co-founder of the Rainbow Push Coalition. She is an ordained minister, and sits on the board of the Vernon Park Church of God. As a church leader, she heads the Justice ministry at her church.)
Steller award nominee - Kim Stratton, a gospel recording artist will perform.
The Mistress of Ceremonies will be Delores "Dee" Richmond, from GMAC Realty.
The keynote speaker is Rev Dr Vera Stewart, Minister of Pastoral Care, from New Faith Baptist Church in Matteson, Illinois.
The theme for the event is "Following the Spirit and Accepting Change", and the Pastors to be honored are Bishop Sylvester & Rev. Dr. Luella Brinson, Hope Outreach Ministries; Pastors Kennie and Brinda Delt, Higher Love Ministries; Pastor Michael & Gwendolyn Hudson, Christ Temple Community Church; Pastor Walter & Debora Matthews, Pleasant Green M.B. Church; Rev. Drs. Noah & Carolyn Waddy Reid, Langley Avenue Church of God; Pastor Leon & Evangelist Diane Thompson, Greater Canaan M.B. Church; and Rev. Marlene Woodson, C.E.O.,Christian Vision Center.
The event will be held on Saturday, August 28th, 2004 at the Oak Lawn Hilton Hotel, on 94th and Cicero, in Oak Lawn, Illinois, from 9 am to 1 pm.
