He has taught economics at Harvard, traded bonds on Wall Street, and co-founded "American Thunder," a NASCAR magazine. But what Canadian-raised Muslim Aman Verjee is most passionate about is his support for President Bush.
Verjee is the unlikely head editor of a controversial new book entitled THANK YOU, PRESIDENT BUSH: REFLECTIONS ON THE WAR ON TERROR, DEFENSE OF THE FAMILY, AND REVIVAL OF THE ECONOMY. And he has recruited a cast of Republican all-stars to his cause. The anthology includes essays from over two dozen conservative authors, including the Vice President, the PresidentÂs brother and former members of the Reagan Administration. (A partial list of contributors involved in the project can be found at http://www.thankyoupresidentbush.com.)
ÂMany people are surprised that I, as a Muslim, could be such an outspoken advocate for President BushÂs re-election, says Verjee, Âbut in truth heÂs done more to help bring freedom to predominantly Muslim nations than any one else in history. Verjee adds that the positive impact of BushÂs War on Terror will eventually be seen for what it isÂthe free worldÂs stand against tyranny and bullying and the elimination of weapons of mass destruction.
To make his point, Verjee enlisted a host of conservative luminaries to contribute chapters to his book. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT BUSH includes essays by Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, former Secretary of State George Shultz, Focus on the Family founder James Dobson, Americans for Tax ReformÂs Grover Norquist, former Attorney General Ed Meese, and famed commentator Phyllis Schlafly.
VerjeeÂs co-editor is Rod Martin, the chairman of the conservative Vanguard PAC and a conservative Baptist. Despite being a conservative odd couple, Verjee and Martin were eager to work together and decided early on to use this book to accentuate BushÂs strong record. ÂThe record has been badly distorted by the Bush haters, says Martin, ÂThis book seeks to set things straight.Â
ÂKerryÂs fear-mongering on the economy is empty rhetoric, Verjee adds. The former bond trader, who also taught at Harvard University, lauded BushÂs economic stewardship. ÂDespite a recession, stock market crash, 9-11, wars, and accounting scandals, BushÂs tax cuts have made the U.S. economy grow faster than other industrialized nations, he points out, before adding, ÂBut if Kerry gets his way, his wish-list of higher taxes and increased government spending will certainly put the economy at risk again.Â
THANK YOU, PRESIDENT BUSH is available at Borders and Barnes & Noble bookstores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com.
