Web based photo contests are booming, but due to the sheer number of first time digital camera contestants quality may suffer. As the worldwide largest society for Nikon photographers, Nikonians® (http://www.nikonians.org) has managed to keep both quality and quantity at respectable levels.
With a member gallery hosting over 15,000 images the contest entries for the two 2004 contest divisions, color and B&W, were numerous. Dutch photographer Marsel van Oosten impressed the judges winning first place in both divisions and received a full version of Adobe Photoshop CS and a Color Management-Tool Eye-One from Gretag-Macbeth.
A full version of Color Efex Pro Photoshop filters from nik multimedia and an Intuos3 A5 tablet from Wacom were won by Dan LaRusso (USA), Miguel Teixeira (Portugal), Rob Cruse (Australia) and Jeroen Krol (The Netherlands).
"The contest reflects the high quality work of the participating members" said J. Ramon Palacios, one of the two founders. "We are very proud of the finals and several winners are given the chance to publish their work through Nikonians, both online and offline added the seasoned photographer.
