Intradyn Cuts Data Backup Costs for Small Businesses by 20%

In a move to aggressively expand the smart business practice of secure data backup and archiving, Intradyn announced today it is slashing the prices of the desktop models of its popular RocketVault™ appliance for small businesses by 20% from the already-aggressive prices the products have sold for widely since 2003. The entry-level model is now $1195. The firm says the price cut is enabled by volume production and associated economies of scale.

When it introduced the RocketVault™ two years ago, Intradyn was the first company to offer backup and archiving for both on-site and off-site data protection in a single, self-contained unit. The device is a hard-disk-based hardware and software solution for backing up a business’ data. In addition to on-site storage, it can send the data securely off-site for disaster recovery purposes. The RocketVault™ uses the highest level of encryption available, for the utmost in data security. It’s a simple, plug-and-play network-server solution requiring little setup time and no IT expertise. Data protection is one of the most pervasive problems facing small businesses today. Nearly a third of the small firms in the U.S. – meaning millions of businesses – have no off-site backup, and most are without readily accessible archives, according to Intradyn’s market research. Prior to the availability of the RocketVault™ disk-based backup and archiving appliance, the majority of small businesses that were backing up their data were doing so to magnetic tape. Yet, a widely cited study by The Yankee Group found that 50-60% of attempted restores from tape backups fail, which the firm attributed both to the general unreliability of tape, as well as to human error. It is also more secure, in that tapes can be lost or stolen when transported to off-site locations.
