Erik Pace Birkholz speaks to the Inland Empire chapter of the International Systems Security Association (ISSA) on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona.

Erik Pace Birkholz, president and founder of Special Ops Security, will give his "Fight Network Negligence" presentation today at the Kellogg West auditorium on the campus of Cal State University Pomona. Birkholz was invited to speak by the Inland Empire chapter of the International Systems Security Association (ISSA), a globally recognized organization for Information Security professionals.

During his speech, Birkholz will discuss the need for organizations to migrate from a traditional network or perimeter-centric security model to a more secure asset-centric model in which risk can be quantified and managed according to asset criticality. "The rules of engagement have changed and the attack surface area has increased dramatically in the last five years," said Birkholz. "Modern organizations simply cannot defend their networks using the same strategies from the turn of the millennium."

The Inland Empire ISSA chapter, officially recognized in July 2003 and led by Dr. Dan Manson, has invited other notable security experts to speak in their forum, including Isabelle Theisen, Director of IT Security for Universal Studios, and Robert E. Lee, CEO of Dyad Security and contributor to the Open Source Security Testing Methodology Manual (OSSTMM) project. The presentation will be held at noon today at 3801 West Temple Avenue, Building 76, Pomona, California.
