Business Owners Gather to "Redefine" their Businesses At the African American Business Summit 2005

Successful African American Business Summit helps Small Business professionals redefine their business.

Hundreds of business owners, executives, operators, entrepreneurs, partners, and more from all over the United States attended the most remarkable four-day business-to-business event situated in Rancho Mirage, California. Presented by Wells Fargo and hosted by Turning Point Magazine, The TPC Foundation Inc., and The African American Chamber of Commerce Palm Springs - The African American Business Summit (AABS 2005) appropriately themed: BUSINESS REDEFINED: an Extraordinary Experience for Exceptional Business People, was held at the Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa June 23rd –26th. Attendees gained immeasurable information and the influence needed to facilitate their businesses to grow and succeed.

The African American Business Summit began with the TPC Foundation, Inc.’s Charity Golf Game from 7:00 AM to Noon, and then kicked into high gear with the opening luncheon. Co-chair Morris L. Reid provided stirring opening remarks which led into Iyanla Vanzant delivering a moving and awe-inspiring keynote.

AABS 2005 presented events to keep the attendees engaged including Anthony Asadullah Samad’s Urban Issues Forum addressing “Black Businesses Must Secure Their Own Masks First: Capacity as a Barrier to Business Growth”; the $5,000 Living History Makers Entrepreneur Award Reception which was hosted by Wells Fargo, Turning Point Magazine and TPC Foundation, Inc. Turning Point Magazine and Wells Fargo jointly presented the Living History Makers Entrepreneur Award and $5,000 to Judi Henderson-Townsend of her unique company, Mannequin Madness, at an exciting ceremony that chronicled her business and how she redefined the industry; the Business Exchange and Expo hosted by Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. where attendees had a chance to meet with corporate and small business representatives face to face and enjoyed a new additive - Your 15 Minutes of Fame! presented by Wells Fargo where attendees had a 15 minute platform to pitch their business to a receptive audience; a daily Cyber Cafe presented by Union Bank of California which attendees got to stay connected to their businesses through available computer systems; Welcome Reception and Golf Tournament Awards with Alan Seman, Mayor City of Rancho Mirage; Pat Means, President of Turning Point Communications, Mistress of Ceremony Deanna Michaux, Morris L. Reid and Jaci Wilson Reid - Conference Co-Chairpersons/Westin Rinehart, ‘Cash Flow’ After Hours where attendees relaxed around a game of Robert Kiyosaki’s Cash Flow Game and other board games and a Morning Workout with Maria Dowd that got the attendees day off to a great start!

From the first day of break-out workshops to the last, the attendees acquired information to redefine their businesses from those who are specialized in their fields.

AABS 2005 final luncheon brought together the youth attendees from Smart Start with the business attendees for a stimulating and standing ovation keynote from Dr. Dennis Kimbro, author of “Think and Grow Rich – A Black Choice”. It was dynamic and left attendees never wanting to leave! Dr. Kimbro charged all generations with his inspired messages needed to make their efforts grow within themselves and create their own commanding entities.

AABS closed with it’s first ever Wave of Praise Gospel Brunch which left attendees spiritually uplifted with pop and gospel sensation Howard Hewett, Maura Gale, Alfonso Freeman, Fatima Lowe, Palm Springs own: the Vann Hacketts; Dwayne LeSassier; Denise White - Gospel Praise Dancer; hilarious Christian comedian The Rev. Monty B. Sharpton and Gentlemen for Christ -- who brought the house down!
