The holiday shopping season is fast approaching, and those whose gift list includes teens and 'tweens often find that they can be among the toughest to shop for. Many adolescents traverse the rough and seemingly endless road to adulthood with a few bumps along the way. But for some young people, particularly those managing additional stressors like grief, divorce, or illness, the typically bumpy road can seem more like an uphill battle.
With this in mind, Seattle based nonprofit, Art with Heart, has teamed with artists and therapists to create a journal workbook to help meet the needs of youth coping with emotional stress. Combining creative writing exercises with expressive art activities, "Chill & Spill: A Place to Put it Down and Work it Out," facilitates healing by encouraging young people to articulate their thoughts and feelings about the issues they encounter. This unique book provides a place for teens to chill out and spill their guts this holiday season.
Over 20 artists donated time and effort to the newly released "Chill & Spill," illuminating journal pages with colorful illustrations that are meant to speak to a teen's sensibilities. Included are artists whose work is recognized from MTV, Rolling Stone, Sony Music, and more. Intended to be a positive outlet, companion and confidant, "Chill & Spil"l utilizes art therapy techniques to help promote positive coping and adjustment skills, and to help lessen mental health disorders that often go hand in hand with trauma.
Available today, "Chill & Spill" costs $18.95 and may be ordered online at http://www.artwithheart.org/shop. Proceeds support Art with Heart's efforts to help youth in crisis. Discounts for bulk orders are available.
