Geocaching is the global GPS treasure hunting sport that has captured the imaginations of explorers, travellers and adventurers everywhere. A travelbug is a unique tag that travels from place to place, being found and transported by people hunting for geocache sites.
Four Ascent plaques, each bearing a piece of rock from the summit of Mount Snowdon in North Wales, are travelling around the world in the four directions of the compass, each one being carried along by geocache hunters until all four make their final journey back to the summit of the mountain.
Ascent is an adventure coaching experience that helps people to refocus on their dreams and achieve their greatest goals in life. It combines powerful coaching with outdoor adventure, and uses the physical metaphor of climbing to develop the mindset necessary to achieve anything.
Ascent, and the concept of adventure coaching, was created by Peter Freeth and Clay Lowe.
Peter Freeth, a leading business coach and author, says, "Ascent is a transformational journey that combines close personal coaching with outdoor adventure to help people achieve their dreams. The rock that each Ascent client brings back from the summit of the mountain is a symbol of their personal journey, so we thought it would be interesting to send four rocks on journeys of their own."
Clay Lowe is a keen outdoor adventurer, having captained teams in International adventure races. "Geocaching is an exciting sport, combining the intrigue of a treasure hunt with the exhilaration of exploring the outdoors. We felt that the travelbugs were the ideal way to spread word of Ascent throughout the four corners of the world."
Each plaque bears a message telling the finder about the Ascent story:
"Our names shouted in a certain dawn... a message... a summons... There must have been a moment, at the beginning, where we could have said no. But we heeded the call to adventure and boldly stepped forward across the threshold of the unknown and returned with something important to share.
This rock began its journey at the top of Mount Snowdon where it lay waiting for a passing warrior to hear its call. That warrior brought this rock, this elixir, back to the ordinary world where its journey continues in your hands.
Through the transformational journey of Ascent, we heed the call to adventure and find ourselves returning to the ordinary world as heroes, carrying with us a symbol of our transformation contained within this rock. It serves as a companion, a talisman, a reminder of who you really are, and of what you must do to reach your destiny.

The first travelbug, Ascent One, has already left home, heading West for North America where it will be picked up by its next companion. The other Ascent travelbugs will be heading off shortly to start their round the world trips.
A new visitor centre is being built at the summit of Mount Snowdon, and it is Peter and Clay's hope that the four Ascent plaques will be displayed there, along with details of their round the world voyages.
