“When you meet Jessica Hawthorn, you are struck by her beautiful (six feet in her stockings) six foot tall Texas frame. She is pretty overwhelming in person. She’s not only beautiful, tall, and from Texas but she sings country music like you wish you could hear on the radio today. Jessica is the “real deal” from Texas. Her music is like a drink of cool water in a desert of the so-called country acts that really don’t sound very country. Jessica is the kind of country singer that Texas produces about once a decade and she has her hopes and dreams set on following in the footsteps of her heroes George Strait and George Jones. The 22-year-old Jessica is newly married to Sergeant Justin Hawthorn USMC, who is currently serving our country in Fallujah, Iraq. He is in the United States Marine Corps and has been stationed in Iraq for seven months. This is Sergeant Hawthorn’s second tour of duty in Iraq and Jessica and Justin spend a lot of time on the phone with each other about once a week. The separation is difficult on the newly married couple but while Justin is serving our country, Jessica is hoping to be invited on a USO Tour and actually perform her music in Iraq. “Just get me an invitation to the USO Tour in Iraq, and I’ll be there,” Jessica said of her desire to sing for the troops. She’s got U.S. Marine Corps written all over her courageous and compelling desire to sing in Iraq regardless of the danger. What an incredible superstar American family.
Jessica was discovered in Los Angeles, California while living with her new husband after they got married. Their next door neighbor invited Producer Bill Botrell to a singer/songwriter party next door and Jessica got up and sang a country song at the party. Bill advised Jessica, (who is one of the few acts that still yodel like Jimmie Rodgers the father of country music), to take her demo to Nashville. Bill Botrell had Jessica send her demo to MCA Universal Producer, Robert Metzgar, who listened and signed her to a development deal with Platinum Plus Universal Records. Mr. Metzgar who also came to Nashville from Texas saw in Jessica a royal musical heritage. Jessica’s mother, Donna Vest sang with her family as a country/bluegrass group. Donna’s five brothers and sisters started the family tradition in country music years ago. Jessica is the culmination of a generation of country singers. Jessica Hawthorn has a voice as big as Texas.
While the average album costs well in excess of $150,000 to just get started at a label in Music City, the beautiful tall blonde has found a label home and a studio that believes in her talent. Jessica could have just as easily been a runway model, but chose to be a singer and homemaker. She’s struck by the influences of Faith Hill and how committed she is to her family. “I admire her not only as a woman, artist and professional, but she’s a wife and homemaker as well. Singing is a passion for me,” Hawthorn said in an interview for her biography piece. “I know in my heart that I’m supposed to sing and be doing what I’m doing in the music business. I sing from my heart with my emotions and my feelings all wound up inside my songs. That’s the music inside me that makes me what I am as a solo artist. Growing up, I accompanied many others in their quest as solo artists. Now, I’m that artist.”

Obtaining the right songs from the right people is a must in the music business. Jessica, with the help of her producer was able to get songs from John Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Dennis Morgan, Tom Shapiro, Dewayne Blackwell, and Don Goodman. One of the most helpful companies was Nashville’s SONY/ATV Music who has been the #1 country publisher in Nashville for the past 27 years in a row. The overwhelming cooperation of Donna Hilley and the staff at Sony/ATV Music in Nashville was a wonderful experience for Jessica. See http://www.sonymusic.com
Her co-producers and surrounding entourage of people who have assisted her in the project is like the Who’s Who of the music business. Platinum Plus Universal Records is one of the largest development labels in the world and also boasts some of the most successful artists in the country music business. Jessica is in development with Platinum Plus Universal Records and her album, video and single will be launched sometime in early 2006. See http://www.platinumplusuniversal.com
Hawthorn has everything you look for in a commercial presentation of music. She has humility, beauty, a wonderful family and a commercial voice to die for. Her next sessions this year in Nashville will be indexed against a tough economy, a war on terrorism and the uncertain future. However, in a world that seems so uncertain, there is one thing you can count on. You can count on Jessica Hawthorn to bring an album to market that will be as solid as a rock. She has hit material written all over everything she does in the music business.
