Some films cost an arm and a leg to produce... mine just cost a leg

"The Night Before Christmas" is the story of Nick Allman, a disillusioned young man who has lost touch with the true spirit of the holidays. Set in Chicago on Christmas Eve, it follows his day from morning till midnight as he encounters a variety of characters who help renew his belief in a season where everyone's expectations run high.
Originally produced as a 48-minute independent feature, the film was first seen in millions of homes on Lifetime Television when it was presented as their first original holiday movie in 1994. The movie also earned awards in both the Charleston and Houston International Film Festivals.
Now released for the first time on DVD in a 10 year commemorative edition, the film is presented with a newly remastered picture and a grab bag of bonus features including a director's commentary, behind the scenes segments, press clippings, storyboards, and a production slideshow spotlighting the making of the film.
Having suffered from a near fatal accident in which he lost his right leg, Vasilatos financed the film with the proceeds of a personal injury settlement. "Some films cost an arm and a leg to produce... mine just cost a leg" he often jokes. In retrospect however, the tragedy afforded Vasilatos the opportunity to set out and meet the personal challenge of making a film after having spent so many years just "talking about it"; the ironic "good" coming out of a bad thing.
Shot entirely on location in Chicago, the film plays like a Christmas card to the city featuring many landmark locations including the Music Box Theater, Six Corners, and St. Alphonsus Church.
