Brainy Baby Company Participates in Roundtable About New Report on Marketing of Educational Media for Babies, Toddlers, Preschoolers from The Kaiser Family Foundation

Marcia Grimsley, Senior Producer and Director of Educational Content for The Brainy Baby, Participates in the Roundtable Discussion Led by The Kasier Family Foundation to Discuss the Issues of Children's Media In Conjunction with the Release of Their New Report ""A Teacher in the Living Room? Educational Media for Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers."

The Brainy Baby Company is one of the featured participants in a roundtable discussion hosted by The Kaiser Family Foundation on the many issues related to educational media for very young children, which has seen an explosion in the development of media products for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

The event will be held in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 and, at the same time, The Kaiser Family Foundation will release a new report, "A Teacher in the Living Room? Educational Media for Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers," about the educational claims made in the marketing of many of these products to parents.

Representing The Brainy Baby Company is Marcia Grimsley, senior producer and director of educational content for the company. Grimsley has produced 14 titles in the award-winning Brainy Baby Learning Library™ of multi-media products, (who’s individual videos and DVDs have won over 40 awards and professional recognitions), and is responsible for educational content for the full line of Brainy Baby toys, books, videos, DVDs and games.

What: A roundtable discussion featuring leading children's media executives and child development experts, and the release the new Kaiser report, "A Teacher in the Living Room? Educational Media for Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers." The presentation and panel discussion will explore issues such as:

  • What is the size and scope of the market for electronic educational media products such as videos and DVDs, computer programs, and video games for very young children?
  • What types of educational claims are made in the advertising and marketing of these products?
  • What kind of research has been conducted to measure and assess educational benefits?
  • What are the potential benefits and concerns about media use among very young children?
  • What guidelines are provided for parents to maximize the potential educational benefits of the products?

Who: Vicky Rideout, vice president and director of Kaiser's Program for the Study of Entertainment Media and Health, will present the latest data on electronic media use among young children, and show examples of the many products currently on the market; and Dimitri Christakis, M.D., a lead researcher for the report, will present the findings. Rideout will moderate a panel discussion featuring:
