State law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky requires that anyone wishing to file for the office of County Circuit Court Clerk pass a written test with a minimum score of 70 percent or more, prepared and administered by the Administrative Office of the Courts.

The test consists of 25 percent TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education), and the remainder is comprised of job specific tasks found in the Circuit Court Clerk Manual, Circuit Court Clerk Accounting, and Personnel Management and Human Resources.

For the 2006 Election, several potential candidates took the test; only three passed with the required minimum score. All three office seekers passing the test were Democrats, making the race more interesting. In essence, it also makes the race shorter.

With all three from the same political party, it now becomes a race for the Primary Elections to be held May 16th, 2006. Whichever candidate wins the primary will be the next Hardin County Circuit Court Clerk, as they will run unopposed in the General Election November 7th, 2006.

Also ironic, is that all three persons vying to become the next Hardin County Circuit Court Clerk are residents of Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

The three Democratic candidates running are:

-Ferrell Adkins, a practicing lawyer;

-Loretta Crady, a county employee; and,

-Danny Hutcherson, a Certified Public Accountant

All three candidates will now have to make a dash to the race to become known to the constituents of Hardin County.

Danny Hutcherson capitalized on Internet technologies to assist him in this task, launching his website on January 16, 2006, less than two weeks after filing to run in the election.

The Election 2006 Countdown has a much faster ticking sound to the three Democratic candidates running for Hardin County Circuit Court Clerk. The candidates only have until May 16th the synergize constituents and capture votes.
