La Crosse, WI -- (PRWEB) February 4, 2006 – A new web site enables backpackers to search for and plan their next backpacking trip by browsing user submitted trip reports. WeBackpack.com was created as a result of one backpacker’s frustration trying to find a place to go for a spring break backpacking trip. “I’m not your typical college student,” states Justin Poehnelt, the site creator. ”Instead of heading to Cancun, Florida or some other wild spring break hotspot, I was looking for a remote place to spend the week backpacking.”
The problem, as Justin stated, was finding somewhere to go that would be accessible in mid March and not subject to the extremes of winter. “I spent several days searching the web and browsing backpacking trip reports looking for the perfect place to go,” Justin added. “Eventually I found some information on the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico and was immediately hooked, but not before my creative juices started flowing.”
WeBackpack solves Justin’s problem by allowing backpackers to search user submitted trip reports using basic criteria such as month, state, or mileage; something not possible through standard search engines. Justin has further expanded the site to allow backpackers to upload backpacking pictures along with their trip reports and create online gear lists.
Although many backpackers store their gear away for the winter, WeBackpack.com has averaged 3 submitted trip reports a week and currently has over 40 backpackers registered in its short lifespan. “Overall, I think the site has been a tremendous success and will only continue to grow,” Justin stated.
Justin first began backpacking on a 30 day National Outdoor Leadership School backpacking course in the Wind River Range of Wyoming. Justin recommends backpacking to anyone that wants to escape the rigors of everyday life and relax in some of the most beautiful places in the world.
