Actress extraordinaire, Regina King has been named the 2006 “Celebrity Mother of the Year” by the The Rudi Johnson Foundation. This is the first time the foundation has issued this award. In addition to King, The Rudi Johnson Foundation has also named Mrs. Fannie J. Mallory, mother of Cincinnati Mayor, Mark Mallory, as the 2006 “Cincinnati Mother of the Year”. In addition, eight (8) “Mothers” have also been named by the foundation and are recipients of the Rudi Johnson Foundation‘s 2006 “Mother of Year “award. The awards will be presented annually to women who balance career, family and motherhood all while being a leader in business, the arts and/or the community. King and Mallory along with the eight other outstanding “Mothers” will receive their award at a Celebrity Luncheon and Concert on May 14 at The Westin Hotel’s Presidential Ballroom in Cincinnati, Ohio. Joining Rudi for this spectacular one of a kind event, will be Cincinnati Bengals' teammates, Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, Pro bowler, Shayne Graham, Shaun Smith, Odell Thurman, (nominated for rookie of the year) and Madieu Williams, just to name a few. Rudi’s teammates and coaching staff have all agreed to come out and attend this exciting event. There will be a special awards presentation posthumously to Odell Thurman’s mother, Joyce Bland and Madieu Williams’ mother, Abigail Butscher, on behalf of their sons.
As a featured fundraising event for The Rudi Johnson Foundation (RJF), the luncheon and concert will provide a fun-filled afternoon that will pay tribute to those who have given so much of themselves by being a friend, confidante, supporter, as well as a source of infinite wisdom. Our Mothers!
Presented by The Rudi Johnson Foundation, 94.9 MOJO and JD Byrider, this is the first time the foundation has issued these awards.

Honored will be actress, Regina King. Regina King began her career in the television show "227" (1985), followed by a role in Boyz n the Hood (1991). She began to be recognized by a mainstream audience after her role as Cuba Gooding Jr.'s wife in Jerry Maguire (1996). She appeared in Enemy of the State (1998) as Will Smith's wife. You may recall her recent highly acclaimed role as Margie Hendricks in Ray (2004). She was also in the following: Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (2005) ... A Cinderella Story (2004) as Rhonda, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003) as Grace Rossiter.
As you can see, Regina King has been able to balance her accomplished career, with stellar performances all while thriving in Motherhood. She is a definitely a woman who has put family first while excelling in her career as an actress in Hollywood. In addition to her acting career, King devotes a significant amount of to her son Ian, age 9, by playing an active role in many of his extracurricular activities. King was chosen as the 2006 RJF Celebrity Mother of the Year because she has established herself as one of the most talented and versatile actresses in Hollywood all while putting her son and family first. Regina is married to Ian Desdune.
R & B superstar Howard Hewitt will perform at the Celebrity Mother’s Day Luncheon.
This highly anticipated event will bring together an impressive lineup of Bengal superstars and local celebrities.
