Weston, MA (PRWEB) May 24, 2006
GotVMail Communications, the award-winning Virtual Phone System for Today's Small Business, today announced that it will be a sponsor of the 2006 USA SAGE high school entrepreneur championships to be held this Friday, May 26, in New York. GotVMail will provide a grant to the winning team to help defray costs incurred in representing the United States at the SAGE World Cup in China.
This year marks the fourth year of the national competition organized by Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE), an international organization based at California State University, Chico, in partnership with the City University of New York Institute for Virtual Enterprise. The competition will feature over 100 high school entrepreneurs on teams from six states who will vie for the opportunity to represent the United States at the SAGE World Cup in Shanghai. The USA competition will be held Friday, May 26, at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn.
“We are honored to serve as a sponsor of this year’s national SAGE competition,” said David Hauser, GotVMail Co-founder, Chief Technology Officer, and SAGE Advisory Board member. “SAGE provides young entrepreneurs with a great opportunity to hone their business skills and network with established professionals. I was one of the judges at the SAGE World Cup last August and was astounded by the creativity and success of these young entrepreneurs.”
For the 2006 national championship, high school teams from six states, including New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Idaho and California, will make oral and written presentations to a panel of judges. The students will describe their entrepreneurial and social ventures that they started and operated during the past year. The teams are judged on entrepreneurship, community outreach, civic engagement, environmental responsibility, use of college mentors and use of a business advisory board. Following each presentation, judges ask questions of the student presenters.
The defending national champion is a team from Northwestern Lehigh High School in New Tripoli, Pennsylvania. The student entrepreneurship projects range from running an in-school food cart service in order to reduce lunchtime truancy to finding new markets for handicrafts for an economically impoverished ethnic group.
