Chanute, KS (PRWEB) October 5, 2006
One of the most popular forms of communication is now linking Neosho County Community College students at both the Chanute and Ottawa campuses: text messaging! Nine out 10 college students carry cell phones and Neosho County Community College is among the first Midwest institutions of higher learning to connect multiple campuses with text messages to their wireless phones and devices.
“We must adjust to this new “Next Gen” group of students and that means new communication methods,” said Neosho County Community College President, Dr. Vicky Smith. Smith and other Neosho Community College educators will interact with students through text messaging including information on campus activities, changing schedules, and other items of interest to enrich their campus experience.
Neosho Community College’s Vice President for Student Learning, Brian Inbody, Ed.D. predicts the new service will be a big hit with students: “This is a great way to reach our students in the way they want to receive it. It’s instantaneous, portable, and concise information delivered right to the student. This is going to get critical information, such as school closings for bad weather, right into the hands of students no matter where they are.”
The new Panther Text Net System is faster and more reliable than traditional forms of college campus information, such as campus newspapers or radio stations. That is one of the reasons Neosho Community College created the text message system for students; “We do not have a campus newspaper, and even if we did, we’re not sure how many students would read it,” said Smith. “With Panther Text Net we know they got the message,” she added.
Neosho campuses were able to get the Panther Text Net System up quickly working with MESSAGEbuzz.com. “I chose MESSAGEbuzz because of their excellent customer service. They worked very fast to get me set up and had many great suggestions for implementation and launch,” said Inbody. “The web access system works great,” he added.
At Neosho County Community College technology is at work both in and outside the classroom to enrich students’ academic and social experience. The Panther Text Net System is just one example of the effort the school is making to connect with students on both campuses.
