Unique New Website The Light Beyond Offers Comfort, Hope And Information For The Bereaved, The Dying And Those Who Love Them

The Light Beyond bereavement website and forum was created by Lucie Storrs as a tribute to her mother, who sadly died when Lucie was still too young to remember her. As a result, Lucie developed a remarkable empathy toward those who grieve and a strong desire to help others - qualities that inspired her vision for The Light Beyond. Struck by the fact that there was no obvious site for the bereaved to visit in search of advice and support, she decided to create her own healing place to help people through bereavement, one step at a time...

The Light Beyond (http://www.thelightbeyond.com) is a newly launched website with a compassionate mission: to bring comfort and hope to the bereaved, the dying, and those who love them. A balanced blend of support, information and inspiration, The Light Beyond is a unique and welcoming place where people who have suffered profound, personal loss can find strength and hope in the shared experiences of others.

As a toddler, Lucie Storrs experienced one of life's most heartbreaking losses - the sudden, untimely death of her mother at the tender age of 28. And although a child's memory fades quickly, the pain of a tragic loss has a way of re-emerging, periodically, throughout a survivor's lifetime. Such was the case with Lucie.

While Lucie's loss changed her life in many ways, and nothing could fill the endless void created by her mother's passing, a light began to emerge from the darkness. Lucie developed a remarkable empathy toward those who grieve and a strong desire to help others - qualities that inspired her vision for The Light Beyond.

According to Lucie, "Perhaps people who are devastated by loss are reluctant to reveal the depths of their pain, or perhaps we're just reluctant to face and discuss issues like death, dying and grief."

"Whatever the reason, the bereaved often feel alone, afraid, angry and hopeless. In The Light Beyond, I envisioned a way to offer support… to let those who grieve know they are not alone and that others do understand and care."

In addition to the grief it brings, the death of a loved one has far-reaching implications for survivors - social, financial, spiritual, legal - and in many cases, the dying and their friends and families are ill-prepared for the final journey. The Light Beyond is a beacon of support, inspiration, and practical information based on the experiences of real-life people who have endured losses of all kinds and now share their experiences to help others find the way to peace and healing.

The website features two ebooks. Bereavement For Beginners, a 40-page collection of poems, readings and practical information to help the newly bereaved and those who care about them, is offered as a free download to anyone who registers on The Light Beyond. Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep, a 158-page collection of more than 250 poems and inspirational readings from time-honored and contemporary writers, is available for purchase on the site.

  • At the heart of The Light Beyond is the discussion forum, a virtual community where users can share ideas and support and ask for advice on all aspects of death, dying and bereavement.

Additional resources include:

  • An extensive library of original articles covering a wide range of topics, from how to cope with a terminal illness or offer support to a grieving friend, to how to make final arrangements for burial or cremation, along with information on wills and probate.
  • A free 4-minute inspirational movie based on the sympathy poem Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep.
  • Free sympathy ecards, as well as opportunities to purchase sympathy flowers and books on bereavement.
  • A frequently updated bereavement blog, providing useful information and more opportunity for user interaction. Readers are invited to share their own story to help others learn and grow from their experiences.

"Nothing can fill the empty place created when a loved one dies," Lucie comments. "But The Light Beyond illuminates a path to peace and healing for survivors, regardless of religious affiliation or cultural background. If people find comfort and support on our site, we know we've done our job."
