Impact Unlimited, a leading provider of brand communications for events, meetings, and exhibits worldwide, hosted more than 60 students from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and Drexel University at their Annual Summer Student Symposium on July 26 at the Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township, N.J. Impact Unlimited's student-focused event offered students an opportunity to experience the latest in exhibit and event technology and design.
"We understand the importance and responsibility of educating students who express a solid interest in our industry," said Ken Payne, President of Impact Unlimited. "This event offers students an opportunity to experience cutting edge technologies and see first hand how we have integrated them into event design. We know that the students who were present are the future of this business. We are committed to fostering their talent and helping them grow."
"This event has made me think about the broader applications of what I am learning and has made me realize that I am not limited in the applications of my designs," said Ingrid Taylor, an FIT graduate student pursuing her Masters in Exhibition Design. "This experience was extremely beneficial to me since I learned that there is so much that I can do with this major and that the applications for it are so diverse."
"Impact's event and technology demonstrations were great," added Brian Gadomski, a Digital Media major from Drexel University. "It has given me perspective on the way this industry is run and has provided me with insight on how I can apply what I've leaned in the classroom to the real world work environment."
Impact's Summer Student Symposium was host to the Solutions and Technology Fair, which showcased a wide range of solutions to improve the effectiveness of convention and meetings as well as new technologies, designed to enhance convention and meeting experiences including, but not limited to, the following:
- Trend station - what's new in color and materials and what's new in green design
- Housing and registration - Web-based housing, registration, and dining tool
- The newest 3D video and multi-sensorial experience technologies
- Interactive brainstorming tools
- The latest in touch-less interactivity
- Enhanced reality demonstration
- Integrated electronic detailing and tracking/measurement tools
- LED video display curtain
- Interactive lighting display
- Dimensional projection
"The dimensional projection was my favorite technology displayed at the tech fair," said Stephanie Gelish, a Digital Media major from Drexel University. "It really brings the information learned in the classroom to life."
"Since our summer symposium has been highly successful with our clients we decided that in turn it would prove to be a beneficial experience for students as well," said Stephen Mapes, Vice President of Creative Services for Impact Unlimited and Associate Professor of Digital Media at Drexel University. "It is critical to our industry for students to experience and learn the applications of their studies in a real world environment. The purpose of this event is to inspire and teach the future of this advancing field."
