Fans Gather Online at Wikia’s Halopedia To Document Details of Newly Released, Wildly Popular Game

Halopedia gives players the opportunity to not only contribute their expertise, but to also work alongside and become friends with some of Halo's most passionate fans and skilled players.

The Wikia Gaming Network (http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Gaming), a collection of community-run sites for more than 400 games, today announced that its popular Halo fan site, Halopedia (http://halo.wikia.com), has created more than 800 pages of content on Halo 3, just three weeks after the game’s launch took the world by storm. With $170 million in sales in the first 24 hours, Halo 3 now holds the title for the largest single day revenues in the entertainment industry—beating out Spider-Man 3 and the latest Harry Potter novel. As a result, it’s no surprise that the game’s popularity has spilled into the online world where gamers are voluntarily building out content about Halo 3 on sites like Halopedia.

Halopedia already has an abundant amount of content about the new game including detailed information on all vehicles, equipment, armor permutations and multiplayer maps, harder-to-find information on easter eggs and the intricacies of the plot evolution. Users have even documented the locations and transcripts of the seven mysterious terminals (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Terminals) intended to unlock parts of the Halo 3 backstory in a throw back to Bungie's Marathon series.

In addition to providing factual content on the game, Halopedia is home to a vibrant and passionate community of some of Halo’s most hardcore fans. “The wiki-format of Halopedia is great because it encourages gamers to work together to build a collection of knowledge that is larger than what any one gamer could do alone,” said Angie Shelton, General Manager of the Wikia Gaming Network. “Halopedia gives players the opportunity to not only contribute their expertise, but to also work alongside and become friends with some of Halo's most passionate fans and skilled players."

Since its founding in 2004, Halopedia has developed into a valuable information resource, as the community has created more than 3,000 articles on the entire Halo franchise and provides visitors with the detailed insight that only hard-core gamers would know.
