Grosvenor, the privately-owned property development, investment and fund management group, has appointed Kate Brown as Group Director for Environment & Design, a newly created position. The appointment becomes effective January 1, 2008.
The position reflects Grosvenor's focus on ensuring a consistent long-term approach to minimizing its impact on the natural environment, and to contributions to the built environment and urban communities. Grosvenor has a tradition of commitment to the sustainable development and management of cities.
Kate Brown MRICS, currently Development Manager at Grosvenor Australia Asia Pacific, has worked for Grosvenor in the U.K. and Australia and has a strong background in property development and management. The Australian market has led the way internationally in establishing recognized environmental sustainability standards for buildings.
In her new role, Kate will continue to be based in Australia, but will work within the Group Holding Company, reporting to Jeremy Newsum, Group Chief Executive. She will be the first member of the Holding Company team to be based outside the U.K.
Ms. Brown joined Grosvenor in 1999 as Graduate Asset Manager on the Mayfair Estate in London. After working as Development Surveyor in the Liverpool Retail Team between 2001 and 2003, she moved to Australia to work as Development Manager in the Sydney office. In this role, she developed an office building, 25 Smith Street in Parramatta, which was designed to a four-star Green Star and a four-and-a-half Australian Building Greenhouse Rating. The building incorporates many sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting, solar efficient glazing and recycled materials. Kate is a Green Star-accredited professional. (Green Star and Australian Building Greenhouse Ratings are Australia's leading energy-efficiency and environmental quality rating systems for buildings.)
Grosvenor's new Group Director for Environment and Design will provide policy and strategy guidance on the environment to the Group's operating companies internationally -- including Grosvenor's North American offices in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Vancouver, and Calgary -- and will champion the sharing and fostering of best practice in sustainability across all areas of the businesses. Ms. Brown will lead research activity and collate material in order to build understanding and knowledge of how responsible interaction with the environment can be directly linked with the design and development of buildings, communities, and the public realm.
Jeremy Newsum, Group Chief Executive, Grosvenor, said: "This appointment reflects the importance we place on contributing to the development and management of sustainable cities and communities, by fostering best practice and deepening our knowledge across our international businesses. Kate brings to this role an in-depth understanding of our business principles and practices, coupled with a real commitment to Grosvenor making a difference."
Grosvenor is a privately owned group of international property businesses with total assets under management of $22.9 billion as of June 30, 2007. Grosvenor is active in the investment, development and asset management of real estate assets through its operating companies in the Americas, Britain & Ireland, Continental Europe and Australia Asia Pacific, while its fund management business operates across all of these markets.
