Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) November 14, 2007
The National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH), a non-profit organization of employer-based health coalitions, presented employer and coalition member awards on Tuesday at its annual conference. The Oregon Public Employees' Benefit Board was recognized with the Employer Excellence in Value Based Purchasing Award sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems. The Midwest Business Group on Health received the Membership Achievement Award, sponsored by AstraZeneca. The recipients of this year's awards were recognized for their leadership and ability to convene different health care stakeholders around a common agenda: health system reform through value based purchasing.
Oregon Public Employees' Benefit Board
The Oregon Public Employees' Benefit Board (PEBB), the state's biggest commercially insured health care group, designs, contracts and administers medical, dental, life, accident, disability and long-term care insurance, and flexible spending accounts for state employees and their dependents. The Board also offers health care insurance options for retirees not yet eligible for Medicare and individuals in other participating groups. PEBB's total membership is approximately 120,000 individuals.
PEBB, a member of the Oregon Coalition of Health Care Purchasers, received the award for their leadership role in community efforts to increase health care quality and engage other purchasers in value based purchasing strategies. "The current health care system is in crisis and we are working toward a new state of health with focus on improving quality and health outcomes -- not just providing health care," said Jean Thorne, PEBB administrator. "We are pleased to receive this award recognizing our efforts as a group to impact how health care is delivered to maximize health and utilize dollars wisely."
Midwest Business Group on Health
NBCH also presented the Midwest Business Group on Health (MBGH), one of the nation's leading coalitions of private and public employers, with its 2007 Membership Achievement Award in recognition of their collaboration with key health care stakeholders and commitment to health system reform through value based purchasing. MBGH was nominated for the award and chosen by a committee of coalition representatives as an outstanding coalition for efforts to improve the quality of health care in their community.
"We're honored to receive this recognition from NBCH and other coalitions throughout the country," said Larry Boress, president and CEO of MBGH. "This award serves as affirmation of our ongoing efforts to help employers and employees get more value out of their health care dollars by supporting quality initiatives with demonstrated health improvement outcomes, removing barriers to clinically-proven, effective care, and educating the community about health care choices."
