Redsparks (http://www.redsparks.com), founded by Aline and Matt Pfingsten, is a new concept in baby apparel. Upon the birth of their premature daughter, Frankie Marley Pfingsten, Aline realized there was a desparate need for an online destination for mid to high-end clothing, books, developmental toys and games for newborns – preemies in particular. With this in mind, Aline and her husband launched RedSparks, a varitable “one stop shop” for newborn children.
RedSparks is based in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California. Aline Pfingsten was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. Her family moved to Southern Califorina in 1988, after which she received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. Matt Pfingsten, her husband of nine years, grew up in Belleville, Illinois, a suburb of St. Louis, MO. He moved to Los Angeles in 1993 to pursue a degree in marketing and graphic design.
“What makes RedSparks different,” states Aline Pfingsten, the company’s founder, “is that we truly care about each and every one of our customers. Having been through the birth of a premature baby ourselves, we understand their concerns and needs, and strive to provide them relief and levity. Our goal is to build RedSparks into a brand that new parents, preemie or not, know they can trust.”
RedSparks features a variety of products and offerings. To begin with, it showcases some of the hottest baby brands on the market today. “I like to stay on the front edge of baby fashion”, says Pfingsten, “but maintain my commitment to quality. Just because its trendy doesn’t mean it’s a great product.” With that concept in mind, Aline has pieced together a unique and eclectic blend of merchandise. The product line is carefully handpicked, and must conform to Aline’s strict set of standards through which she weeds out “baby fashion du jour” products and focuses on quality and style. As an example, Jelly Cat toys and books, referred to as “the world's most sophisticated soft toys”, are among the most popular items on Aline’s site. Jellycat, established in London in 1999, offers stimulating and engaging soft books and toys, almost all of which are suitable for preemie and term babies alike.
RedSparks also features Kumquat–preemie and term baby clothing designed for practicality, comfort and quality. Made in the USA, these popular pieces are quickly becoming a favorite choice for those ubiquitous celebrity babies we all know and love.
Another RedSparks brand that has enjoyed much success is Tea Collection.
“This is one of my favorite collections in our store,” Aline says with a smile. “What I love most about it is that its inspired by real world culture. Tea Collection brings the tastes, textures and patterns of the world into the home. And its done in a way that makes it affordable to the average American family. That’s a pretty hard combo to find these days”
In addition to eclectic and classic product and fashion, RedSparks is meant to provide support to new parents. With this in mind, Aline and Matt have created “The Playpen”, a parenting blog, designed to share thoughts, tips and stories…anything having to do with being a new mom (or dad).
“If this website was only going to sell product, we didn’t want to do it,” quips Matt Pfingsten, Aline’s husband. “It had to do something for other people as well…had to make us feel good about the project.”
Aline and Matt decided that The Playpen would be a perfect opportunity to realize that vision.
“We’re starting out small, no question,” states Matt. “But one thing we have learned is that parents of premature babies, all babies for that matter, share a common bond. We want RedSparks to be a vehicle to vent, complain, gloat, brag…whatever. We just want people to feel comforatble when they’re on the site. And after all that, if we’re lucky, maybe they’ll buy a few things.”
Redspark operates in Valey Glen, California, and is dedicated to providing the most unique, high quality fashions, activities, accessories and toys to parents of preemies and full-term babies alike. For more informaton about the project, contact Matt or Aline at (888) 329-0336.
