Autism Spectrum Australia has signed a deal making it the exclusive distributor for a new software program, AutismPro, developed in Canada by international autism experts. The program is designed to support one-on-one early intensive intervention, and teacher training in autism.
"Thousands of Australian children are in desperate need of autism services," said Adrian Ford, CEO of Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect). "We believe that this new software will complement our existing services and will help meet the needs of other service providers and families working with children with an autism spectrum disorder."
"The software is called AutismPro," said Mr. Ford. "It was developed by an international board of autism experts, we've recently signed an agreement with the developers to become the exclusive Australian distributors."
Australian governments have recently increased their commitment to families and service providers supporting people with an autism spectrum disorder.
Cynthia Howroyd, President of Virtual Expert Clinics, and a speech language pathologist who worked for years with children with autism, said, "We created AutismPro to meet service needs of communities and school systems alike. Autism diagnoses have skyrocketed everywhere and government agencies simply don't have the resources to keep up."
"AutismPro has a special component for training teachers," said Ms. Howroyd. "It consists of a series of online workshops accompanied by a rich inventory of resources and multimedia tools that teachers can use to apply their workshop training in the classroom."
"A key feature of the program," said Ms. Howroyd, "is it's adaptability to support intensive early intervention in a cost-effective manner. It's also a collaborative tool that provides a means for teachers, clinicians and parents to work together as a team and have thousands of valuable resources at their finger tips."
"Parents need to be empowered as soon as possible to help their children," said Mr. Ford. "Now we can provide Australians with a desperately needed too for autism intervention planning and training over the Internet. This means we can reach large numbers of children and families easily and economically."
