Leading SOA Testing & Virtualization Platform Proven and Enhanced for Customer Needs, including new Service Virtualization Capabilities for High-Performance Implementations

In addition to providing a Virtual Service Environment for functional testing of the multiple components that make up SOA applications, we see the ability to complement existing load and performance labs and Test Lab Virtualization solutions as one of our greatest growth areas

iTKO LISA, the leading provider of testing, validation and virtualization solutions for SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) and enterprise software, announced the general availability release of LISA 4.5 at the Gartner AADI (Application Architecture, Development & Integration) summit held in Orlando, FL. LISA 4.5 extends the functionality of the award wining LISA 4 suite, adding service virtualization for load and performance testing, and customer-driven enhancements.

"We are exceptionally pleased with the adoption and innovative usage of LISA in our customer base. iTKO customers are tackling the hardest quality and integration challenges in the field, for LISA 4.5, we focused on customer-driven enhancements," said Shridhar Mittal, CEO of iTKO. "These enhancements deliver improved usability, integration platform support, and Service Virtualization capabilities for load and performance testing. We believe our customers will want to upgrade rapidly to achieve increased quality and agility throughout the lifecycle of their critical applications."

iTKO customers value the product for its unique ability to test both their existing EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) business processes, as well as emerging SOA initiatives. LISA's native interaction with leading enterprise integration platforms (e.g. TIBCO, Software AG/webMethods, SAP, IBM MQ, Sonic, Oracle, etc.) enables automated testing of complex business logic where traditional methods and tools have failed.

The combination of SOA and Virtualization techniques within enterprise IT has also increased exponentially over the last year, with companies adopting Virtualization in the data center to reduce the server costs of supporting SOA. The release of LISA VSE (Virtual Service Environment) as part of LISA 4 in September 2007 signaled the first solution for virtualizing the behaviors of complex services-based applications, to eliminate dependencies among teams throughout the application development lifecycle.

"In addition to providing a Virtual Service Environment for functional testing of the multiple components that make up SOA applications, we see the ability to complement existing load and performance labs and Test Lab Virtualization solutions as one of our greatest growth areas," said John Michelsen, Founder and Chief Scientist, iTKO. "Many of our customer teams have very limited access to the mainframes and business logic they depend on for testing and developing their own applications, and replication of the whole architecture is impossible by only using server virtualization. With LISA 4.5, these teams can virtualize the rest of the architecture, to 'shave off' the distributed dependencies, and ensure high service levels much earlier in the lifecycle."

New features and enhancements for LISA 4.5 include:

  • Performance-ready LISA Virtual Services Environment (VSE): Performance testing teams, whether using LISA's load testing capabilities, or leading load testing tools like HP LoadRunner and Borland SilkTest, can now get involved in validating performance of enterprise applications throughout their lifecycle, by Virtualizing the behavior of dependent components. LISA VSE provides a ready target for the test lab, capturing and simulating the rest of the architecture dependencies with a high level of functional accuracy in terms of business logic and data. VSE supports more than 2500+ transactions per second on a single typical CPU instance, at a fraction (average 3-5%) of the hardware and software provisioning and maintenance cost of attempting to replicate a test environment, when many of the components are distributed and not under the team's direct control. This functionality complements the value CIOs are realizing through server and test bed virtualization in the data center, by expanding the reach of virtualization to the distributed, service-based components that make up today's enterprise applications.
  • Native Integration Platform support increased. Most iTKO customers are seeking to better manage technologies using leading Integration vendor platforms. Therefore much innovation has been applied to increasing support of business process validation for BPM tools, and interaction with IT Operations & Monitoring frameworks such as TIBCO Hawk, CA/Wily, IBM Tivoli and HP OpenView.
  • Improved UI layer testing: Today's RIA (Rich Internet Applications) models are driving more complex functionality into the web browser. LISA 4.5 further enhances testability of dynamic business interfaces such as those used in SaaS, eCommerce applications and reporting and monitoring dashboards. In addition to supporting web/HTTP, AJAX, Swing, AWT, DOM and other presentation layer technologies, Adobe Flash, Flex and Microsoft ActiveX are now testable with LISA.
  • Usability and workflow enhancements. In addition to some pleasing look and feel changes, new interface elements and workflows within LISA were streamlined to increase user productivity. New step creation, assertion, and filter wizards with context sensitive help are some notable examples. Users of Mercury TestManager / HP QualityCenter can also coordinate LISA tests within their tools in a few clicks.

"The IT benefits of server consolidation and test lab virtualization using tools like VMware and Surgient are already proven and well-known," said Michelsen. "Now with LISA VSE, we are offering customers a way to expand on that value beyond the enterprise data center, to provide faster time-to-market and quality across the full lifecycle of developing, testing and maintaining highly interconnected services-based applications."

iTKO will showcase the new functionality in LISA 4.5 in a webinar on June 24, 2008. This will include real-world examples of how customers have achieved accelerated lifecycles at a lower cost using LISA's new capabilities for testing, validation and virtualization of services.
