PocketFivers Win Eight WSOP Bracelets Heading into Main Event

The Main Event of the World Series of Poker is the most prestigious poker tournament on the planet. Legendary winners have included pros such as Doyle Brunson, Scotty Nguyen and Amarillo Slim as well as rookies like the famous Chris Moneymaker whose win in 2003 sparked the poker boom throughout most of the world. Recent winners have included Jamie Gold, Greg Raymer and last year's winner, Jerry Yang. This year, the Main Event is in full swing and will play down to the final nine contestants on July 14th. On Thursday, July 3rd, the Main Event began from the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the first of four starting days for the marquee poker tournament. By July 14th, a field of thousands will be reduced to just nine, dubbed the "November Nine" because the final table won't be played until then.

Before the year is over, it is quite possible that "djk123" will have amassed over $1,000,000 in online tournament cashes. Chris "moorman1" Moorman of the United Kingdom moved up two spots in the online tournament rankings this week to #4 following his outright victories in the PokerRoom European Daily and the Full Tilt $25K Guaranteed tournaments last week. Former #1 Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy cracked the top ten after winning the PokerStars $100 rebuy twice during last month.

PocketFives.com members had a huge week in online Sunday major tournaments, as "phatcoy888" took down the Full Tilt $750K Guaranteed and placed second in the PokerStars Sunday Million for a combined total of $243,000. PocketFiver "GoMuckYaSelf" outlasted a large field in the Sunday Million and came out on top for a $162,000 score. Kenny "Hixx" Hicks was the winner of the Stars Sunday Second Chance tourney for almost $50,000 and placed sixth in the Sunday Warm-Up for another $18K. "Nutshot2" took down the Stars Sunday Warm-Up for $80K and Jamie "TheCronic420" Rosen won the Stars $200 rebuy for $40,000. "DW2006" was the outright winner of the Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan, receiving $45,000 for his efforts.
