The session entitled "Filmmaker Professional Development and the Festival Experience" will take place Monday, December 8th at10:45 am and be moderated by Mike Jones, Managing Editor, Film Festivals Variety.
Developing programs to set your festival apart and educate the filmmaker can be a key component to any festival. This panel will address what can and should you do to properly enhance the filmmaker experience. Hear from established fests how year after year they continue to create an exceptional filmmaker experience.
"Few fests can boast to being a market. Even at the major events, traditional acquisitions are at an all-time low. Yet every festival is a step for a filmmaker toward building an audience and a career. As film distribution becomes more DIY, filmmakers understand that fests directly cultivate the art film crowd. Every fest serves a vital role of connecting the filmmaker to specialized audiences and sometimes the only art film opportunity in town," commented Mike Jones, Managing Editor, Film Festivals, Variety.
Panelists include Catherine Pfitzer, Executive Director, Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival, Chris Gore, President & Founder, FilmThreat, Michael Cain, Artistic Director & CEO, AFI Dallas International Film Festival and Janet Pierson, Conference & Festival Experience, SXSW.
