Today, CareSouth Homecare Professionals announced plans to deploy the Homecare Homebase agency automation software solution across their network of 36 offices. Headquartered in Augusta, Georgia, CareSouth is one of the country's leading providers of home health services, delivering care to patients in Alabama, California, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

We designed our software and support teams from a customer perspective

Over the past year, CareSouth has experienced tremendous growth that put a spotlight on their need to move the business to a common process and software solution. Previously, offices were supported through a mixture of paper-based systems and laptops in the field, with a common back-office tool, but it was cumbersome and difficult to replicate at new offices or even grow existing locations efficiently.

In addition to being able to roll-out new locations more quickly and easily, CareSouth was looking for a solution that would not create a burden on the field staff. The previous system's reliance on laptops for field documentation created issues among caregivers. Staff reported frustration with the complex nature of the tool and the cumbersome task of handling the laptops, and as a result, they resorted to completing patient visit documentation outside of the patient's home.

"To implement our company's long-term strategy we needed an automation partner that could accommodate our growth plans without affecting our ability to deliver the highest quality patient care," said Rick Griffin, President & CEO of CareSouth "the Homecare Homebase solution will enable us to quickly deploy an intuitive, common system across all of our offices, without adding unnecessary overhead."

Homecare Homebase, a comprehensive wireless automation solution, is designed to streamline agency operation, and improve patient care while increasing profitability. The web-hosted solution offers customers the ability to easily deploy a common product to existing and new offices. A dedicated deployment team is assigned to support each customer, ensuring office staff is proficient and comfortable with the solution prior to launch.

"Meeting technical requirements is one thing," said Bobbi Claxton, CareSouth Vice President, IT, "but where Homecare Homebase really excels is on the clinical side. Our Clinical team found the Homecare Homebase interface logical, and more importantly easy to use. They also liked the simple nature of the handheld devices, and how much easier they were to use than the previous laptop solution."

The clinical backbone of the Homecare Homebase solution is the PointCare Manager. Built on a series of field-tested clinical pathways, the PointCare Manager incorporates thousands of integrated clinical validations to ensure accurate data input. Each step in the clinical process is presented in a single question format making the system easy to use and navigate. Agency field staff input patient visit information on powerful handheld devices running Microsoft Windows Mobile. Field staff find the handheld PDAs easier to operate and less intrusive during patient visits than laptops or tablets. Once the visit is complete information is transmitted in two minutes or less over standard wireless networks to everyone in the patient's circle of care.

"We designed our software and support teams from a customer perspective," said Tom Maxwell, COO, Homecare Homebase. "This approach ensures our solution will always deliver value to our customers no matter how large or how geographically dispersed."
