An advocate for creative outreach to the younger generation, SCION has now teamed up with Cut&Paste to host the FRESHLY SQUEEZED Web Design Challenge. FRESHLY SQUEEZED is an online competition to design a new website for J.U.i.C.E., a nonprofit after-school program that allows the underprivileged youth of Los Angeles to express themselves through dance, music, visual arts, and MC skills workshops. SCION and Cut&Paste recognize the importance of supporting local community arts organizations, which face increased challenges in today's difficult financial climate. While J.U.i.C.E. focuses its resources on its programming and day-to-day operations, the FRESHLY SQUEEZED challenge invites graphic designers, illustrators, graffiti connoisseurs, web designers, coders, and hip-hop enthusiasts, as well as all-around creative types, to help J.U.i.C.E. redefine its online presence by creating an improved design for its website (http://www.rampartjuice.com). Competition submissions should take the form of a homepage design that can be applied thematically throughout the site. For prize consideration, entries must represent J.U.i.C.E.'s urban aesthetic and youthful spirit, while contributing to the site's overall functionality.
The winner of FRESHLY SQUEEZED will see his/her design adapted by J.U.i.C.E. for its homepage and overall site theme. The winner will also receive a $5,000 Grand Prize, courtesy of SCION. The FRESHLY SQUEEZED Web Design Challenge is accepting entries from February 20 through April 10. Designs should be submitted in JPEG, GIF, or PNG files on the competition site. The competition is open to United States citizens, ages 18 years and older. All work submitted for consideration will be displayed in the competition website's online gallery for viewing and commenting. The Grand Prize winner will be announced on June 20, 2009 at the Global Championships for the Cut&Paste Digital Design Tournament 2009.
