We at Pearson are excited to work with the Ankeny Community School District, as it is a district that is focused on integrating technology to meet the needs of all students
Ankeny, IA and San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) March 10, 2009
Ankeny Community School District, the second-fastest growing district in Iowa, announced today its selection of Pearson BenchmarkTM, a Web-based assessment testing and reporting system, to assist with the district's goal of ensuring all students are achieving at their highest level. Pearson Benchmark gathers student achievement data and helps teachers maximize learning goals for each individual student.
Upon full implementation, the Ankeny district plans to use the it to help achieve rigorous standards and benchmarks; common curriculum delivery; integration of technology; periodic, recurring assessments that guide classroom planning; and graded tests. Administrators, instructional coaches and teachers will use Pearson Benchmark to make data-driven decisions and address student achievement gaps.
"We are committed to providing each student an education that best meets his or her needs," says Dr. Debbie Chapman, Ankeny's Curriculum Coordinator for Math & Assessment for Ankeny. "By using the data provided by this system, teachers can monitor each student's learning and adjust programming on a student-by-student basis."
This tightly dovetails with Ankeny's plan to implement an enrichment program across the district. Using the assessment data, staff can focus on areas where students are struggling, and address their specific needs. In addition, for students who excel, the system will help staff gauge their progress and use enrichment time to accelerate learning to a more rapid pace. "Using Pearson Benchmark will better help us to catch struggling students before they fall and let high-fliers fly as high as they can," notes Chapman.
Assessments will be compared against school district standards and curriculum, reinforcing a high level of rigor and aligning with the district's education goals. "By partnering with Pearson, the curriculum review process will provide a system-wide high-quality education, eliminate gaps in instruction, and give teachers an easy-to-use data management tool," Dr. Chapman added.
The system will be implemented to serve more than 7,000 students and more than 600 teachers throughout the district.
"We at Pearson are excited to work with the Ankeny Community School District, as it is a district that is focused on integrating technology to meet the needs of all students," said Douglas Kubach, President and CEO, Assessment and Information, Pearson. "We believe Pearson Benchmark can help guide the way Ankeny teachers address student needs and ultimately help their students succeed."
