Adventure travelers, outdoor enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies now have their own free social network with the theme: "Where in the world have you been? Your friends would like to know." MyAdventures.com provides a virtual "home-base" for friends from around the world to share their adventures and ambitions with like-minded enthusiasts in over 40 outdoor adventure categories. Interests run from the simple, like hiking and backpacking to the extreme, such as base-jumping and skydiving.
The mobile-enabled site provides a place to post video clips, share pictures, discuss adventures, find like-minded friends and explore a wide range of adventure organizations and gear suppliers worldwide. In addition the site delivers up-to-the-minute adventure news targeted by interest, continuously scanning thousands of worldwide news sources.
"No matter what your adventure area of interest, you'll find people who share that interest, as well as information about it, " says founder, Keith Bates. "And there is always something new popping up on the site. I'm surprised every time I log in."
People with Facebook accounts can sign up with one click and immediately begin uploading trip reports, videos and photos to share with friends. Those without Facebook accounts can still sign up for a free MyAdventures.com account within seconds.
At no charge, members of this social networking site can read the travel diaries of serious adventurers, make new friends, share their own adventure stories (plus videos and photos), swap insider travel tips, access trip-planning resources, and much more.
About MyAdventures.com:
Steeped in tradition and travel lore: MyAdventures.com is a groundbreaking, members-focused online social network inspired by the private social clubs popularized in the early 1900s such as the Explorers Club, Royal Geographic Society and The Adventurers Club of Chicago as well as the Adventurers Club of Los Angeles. It's not a travel industry web site. My Adventures is an online gathering place for world travelers and outdoor enthusiasts who like to push the limits - a social networking site where adventurous souls can indulge their passion, share their travel tips, swap tales of high-adventure, find new travel partners and so much more. http://www.myadventures.com/about.aspx
About the founder
This site was inspired by founder Keith Bates' membership in the nearly 100 year old Adventurers Club of Chicago which "provides a hearth and home for those who have left the beaten path and made for adventure." The Adventurers Club of Chicago is a private club for global thrill seekers established in 1911 by Major Robert Foran (an Associated Press correspondent attached to then President Theodore Roosevelt's African big game expedition of 1909-1910). http://www.advclub.org
Some industry facts supported by research: A recent study by the Outdoor Industry Association shows that Americans made an estimated 11.37 billion "outdoor excursions" in one year. The average age of an adventure traveler ranges between 41 and 60. The activity attracts just as many women as men. The average cost for an adventure travel trip is $2,122. And it's estimated that $115 billion is spent annually on adventure travel in the U.S. alone - making it one of the fastest-growing segments of the travel industry.
