She is a talented lawyer and her steadfast commitment to her profession and clients are commendable. I am pleased to congratulate her on behalf of the firm for such a well-deserved honor.

McCarter & English, LLP, is pleased to announce that partner Carolina Avellaneda has been selected by the Boston Business Journal (BBJ) in partnership with El Planeta, the leading regional Hispanic newspaper, as a "20 on the Move" honoree. The project highlights Hispanic executives and entrepreneurs making a difference in Boston. Ms. Avellaneda is receiving this prestigious honor because of her accomplishments as an employment lawyer and litigator as well as her work to advance the interests of lawyers of color. On October 23rd, the honorees will be featured in a special editorial section that will run in both the BBJ and El Planeta, and will be honored at a special event at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston.

"Carolina has been a tremendous leader in many areas, including serving on the firm's Diversity Committee," said Burton Winnick, managing partner of McCarter's Boston office. "She is a talented lawyer and her steadfast commitment to her profession and clients are commendable. I am pleased to congratulate her on behalf of the firm for such a well-deserved honor."

Ms. Avellaneda is a member of the firm's Labor & Employment and Business Litigation Groups. She litigates complex civil cases and cross border disputes and counsels businesses and executives on all aspects of their operations, often acting as outside general counsel. Ms. Avellaneda provides employment law advice on a variety of issues including wage and hour compliance, ADA and FMLA, Workers' Compensation Act, union organizing campaigns, development of personnel policies and procedures, negotiation of employment and severance agreements, employee counseling, preventive training, and investigation of internal workplace matters such as fraud, harassment and discrimination.

This is the second year in a row that El Planeta and the BBJ have teamed up to create "20 On the Move." Once an executive is nominated, a panel of judges from the BBJ, El Planeta, the Latino Professional Network and the Hispanic business community will review the nominations. The panel assesses the nominees' influence in the business community and their efforts to improve the civic life of the region.

Ms. Avellaneda helped launch ALPFA-LAW, the legal arm for the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) and is currently heading that initiative in Boston as a Vice President of ALPFA. She has been active in the International Bar Association for many years, presently serving as the chair of its Leisure Industries Section which is comprised of lawyers that practice in the fields of hospitality, travel and gaming. She is also an active member of the Massachusetts Staffing Association and the American Staffing Association.

Ms. Avellaneda was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and is a native Spanish speaker. She received her J.D. from Boston University School of Law, and her B.A. from Wellesley College. In addition, she is a graduate of Boston University School of Management's Pocket MBA for Lawyers Program and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination Harassment Prevention Training Program.
