Haverhill, MA (PRWEB) November 30, 2009
On Friday, November 13, 2009 RadonAway and AccuStar Labs were honored for their roles in promoting lung cancer awareness and prevention by the American Lung Association (ALA) and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The companies received “Fight for Air” awards at an annual dinner and fundraiser hosted by the ALA’s New England Chapter. The event, “Evening in Paris: A Gala to Support Lung Cancer Awareness,” took place at The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, Mass., and was presented by Kindred Healthcare. This annual event is held each November in recognition of National Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
The ALA program booklet for the evening described RadonAway and AccuStar as “advocates of the effort to prevent radon-induced lung cancer through risk reduction.”
The event’s MC, Heather Unruh, News Anchor for WCVB-TV, the Boston ABC affiliate, presented the “Fight for Air” Award to Carolyn Allen, President of AccuStar Labs and David Hill, Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Spruce Environmental Technologies, Inc. headquartered in Ward Hill, MA, the parent company of AccuStar, RadonAway and HomeAire.
Along with the “Fight for Air” Award, AccuStar and RadonAway also received official recognition citations from the Massachusetts State Senate, praising their “leadership in providing …equipment to protect the public from radon gas.”
“AccuStar Labs and RadonAway are proud to receive the Fight for Air award from the New England Chapter of the American Lung Association,” said Carolyn Allen. “We hope this recognition will help extend our call to prevent lung cancer into the medical community. With the help of health care professionals, together we can spread the news that radon testing and mitigation save lives.”
In his acceptance speech, David Hill said, “I’m humbled to be among tonight’s other honorees. Since I learned about our award, I’ve been thinking about what we might have in common with this very distinguished group of physicians, surgeons and researchers, and now I've realized what it is: We perform surgery on houses, fighting lung cancer by removing a carcinogen from people’s homes with our surgical tools - jackhammers, sawzalls and fans.”
