Flounder Revolution's replica program takes a big step forward as the Coastal Conservation Association signs on as sponsor.

Flounder conservation has taken another step forward in 2010.

The Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) has signed on as sponsor of Chester Moore’s Flounder Revolution (TM) Replica program, allowing a proven commodity to reach new heights.

The program, which promotes the catch and release over flounder 20 inches or more, awards a replica to the angler who releases or donates to a hatchery the largest flounder from March-Nov.

CCA’s $1,000 donation along with The Fish Mount Store producing the realistic replicas gives the program a major upgrade in the new year.

“I gave out seven replicas last year and they all came out of my own pocket. I chose to do it that way to get the program established and put my money where my mouth was so to speak. Having CCA come on this year is a huge blessing as we want to do even more with Flounder Revolution and this replica program is the flagship project,” Moore said.

CCA’s President Pat Murray believes the program puts a positive foot forward for the southern flounder.

"This program is an important step in raising the awareness of the importance of flounder conservation.”

"Just like redfish and speckled trout, southern flounder is a vital recreational species for Texas and it deserves the proper attention. Chester's work has been visionary and has brought flounder conservation to the mainstream."

Moore said CCA's support has been crucial in the flounder fight.

“In all of my years of crusading for flounder, CCA was the first group to step up to the plate and they are still out there doing things on the behalf of flounder and flounder fishermen.”

Moore said a 20-inch plus flounder is a true trophy fish and earning a replica through the program will allow an angler to remember their catch for a lifetime.

“Replicas last longer than skin mounts do and the replicas anglers in this program will get will match their catch. When you ad the high quality mounts produced by the Fish Mount Store to the equation things get really exciting.”

The documentation of catches is done through a measure and photograph system detailed on Moore’s site http://www.flounderrevolution.com.

“This is not a program that puts down anglers who choose to keep those big fish to eat. I will not hold that against someone because flounder no matter their size are mighty tasty fish,” Moore said.

“However, we do recognize flounder are not prolific spawners and the more big ones we let reach the Gulf for spawning the better off we are. Through the support of CCA and Texas Fish & Game magazine, the Flounder Revolution is sending out a message about making the flounder fishery better tomorrow than it is today. With the new regulations in place and this program helping anglers realize these big flounder are amazing, unique trophy fish we hope to ensure more and bigger flounder for coming generations.”
