Boston Retail Partners Releases 11th Annual POS Survey -- Reveals How Retailers Leverage Store Technology to Exceed Customer Expectations

Annual survey of Retail executives focuses on the use of technology at both Point of Sale and in the back office of retail selling locations. Sponsored by leading store technology providers, the POS survey provides a perspective on the current status and future direction of technology spending by retailers.

Boston Retail Partners (“BRP”), a leading independent retail management consulting firm, released the 11th Annual POS Survey at the NRF Big Show Retail Exposition in New York today. BRP asked executives at more than 500 U.S. Retailers to respond to a series of online questions between November 19 and December 31, 2009 for this report. Survey respondents were generally technology, financial or store systems IT executives at leading retail companies.

Despite a difficult year, over seventy-five percent of respondents indicated an overall more positive view of the economy than at the same time last year. More than half noted improving business trends and a slightly more positive view of the economic conditions and business prospects. Looking back, results from past surveys have overwhelmingly focused on reducing expenses and improving inventory efficiency. This year, respondents noted an additional emphasis on enhancing customer service and building loyalty as high priorities. For most retailers, satisfying customers while also controlling costs requires the effective use of technology. By leveraging technology, top retailers are finding ways to reduce overall expenses while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction across stores, websites, and catalogs.
Looking forward, retailers in this survey will be looking at technologies such as Enterprise Selling, Mobile In-
Store Services and Non-Traditional Marketing to have a strong positive impact to their business over the next few years.
