Smackdaddy, a new sports-based social game for iPhone and iPod touch launched today. Created to improve the lives of smack-talking sports fans who enjoy relentless trash chatter, Smackdaddy enables groups of friends to use virtual-currency based bets on sporting events to fuel competitive smack-talk and bragging in the app as well as through Facebook and Twitter. With several uniquely designed features aimed at meeting the specific needs of sports fans and smack talkers, Smackdaddy is now available to download for free in the Apple App Store.
“Sports fans will have a lot to love with Smackdaddy,” said Kartik Raghavan, CEO of Bema studios, “From an iPhone, sports fans can check out the current line on games, make bets (with virtual currency), and talk smack with other fans. The social interaction is really distinct and useful for sports fans—it’s got the real-time nature of Twitter, with an audience and interaction model that delivers a more fun, more relevant set of conversations for sports fans.”
Smackdaddy is the ultimate social sports games for iPhone and iPod touch users. With the app, trash-talkers can put their virtual money where their mouths are and bet against friends to see whose winning wagers make them the ultimate Smackdaddy. Sports-betting has never been this easy. Featuring the Smackdaddy Slider, a user can simply slide his thumb across the slider to set a bet amount. The app automatically updates potential winnings, eliminating the confusion that often exists in many odds calculations. Smackdaddy also includes a “Random Smack” button. For users who want to talk smack, but are too lazy, bored or not especially creative to come up with their own comments, the Random Smack button provides canned insults that can quickly be hurled at rival opponents.
After downloading the Smackdaddy and setting up a new account, users are given 5,000 Smackers, Smackdaddy’s virtual currency. Users also get a Daily Bonus of 1000 Smackers per day for each day they visit the app. Upon arriving at Smackdaddy’s Big Board, users can see today’s Popular Bets, see their current picks, and see their friends’ picks. From there, the application lets users make picks, compete on a Leaderboard, and talk smack with each other.
From the user setting profile, users can have their bets and other smack talk broadcast out through Twitter and Facebook, though Smackdaddy takes care to warn users that too much broadcasting is not a good thing. The game is Smackdaddy – not Spamdaddy!
The Smackdaddy application is available for free from Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at http://www.itunes.com/appstore/.
About Smackdaddy and Bema Studios LLC
Smackdaddy aims to be the ultimate social sports application in the mobile space. It is the brain-child of Bema Studios, LLC. Bema Studios is a private, independent software development firm and was founded in 2009.
Smackdaddy’s origin is illustrious. All sports fans, Bema’s founders came up with the idea for Smackdaddy at a Mexican restaurant that serves enormous burritos. The burrito spawed a bet as to who would finish their meals, and this then led to the weighty discussion of the convergence of mobile devices, the real-time web, and social networking, and how great those trends could be for making and talking smack about quick and easy bets.
Blending those macro trends, a big unfinished burrito, and some extrapolation to sports, and the team was on its way.
