We would have been happy with three or four thousand attendees last year, but prepared the facility for ten thousand just in case. Fortunately we never had more than ten thousand in the facility at one time. As we planned this year's event we knew we had to make this one bigger and better. The big question…how many do we prepare for this year?

Expectations are high after last year's inaugural event that drew a reported thirty thousand spectators to the speedway that had lay dormant for some thirty years. No one has higher expectations than RacersReunion founder and event coordinator, Jeff Gilder. "We set the bar high last year," said Gilder looking back at how that event unfolded.

Space shouldn't be an issue this year as the property has been cleared of several thousand trees to make room for more festivities and parking. This event is not short on content either. It starts on Wednesday at 6 PM with a Harley rally and concert and runs through Saturday night at 10 PM. Coordinators have planned one featured attraction after another Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday building to a climactic closing concert that includes three bands. The concert begins at 5 PM Saturday with Jay Sellers and The Crew. Then country music star, Matt Dylan takes the stage followed by rock and roll icons form the past, Nantucket. All this followed by a fireworks extravaganza.
The future of Historic Columbia Speedway changed directions after last year's inaugural event. The property is now being developed as an all-purpose events facility serving the region. Since last year's RacersReunion several concerts have been held there and a fair is scheduled for later this month. More concerts, car shows, and family activities will be added this year.
RacersReunion, Inc. was established in January 2008 to reunite former racing participants with their fans. The center of all activity is the social network, RacersReunion.com.
