Rochester, NY (PRWEB) July 12, 2010
Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Ontario County chose IC9design to redesign their website and add a content management solution (CMS) to it. CCE is a community-based, not-for-profit education organization that provides cutting-edge, research-based information to the residents of Ontario County. IC9design is a rapidly growing integrated marketing solutions provider located in Bloomfield, NY that specializes in website design and development, internet marketing, content management, web-based applications, and search engine optimization.
Cornell Cooperative Extension was looking to overhaul their current website with more on location images, current content, and important documents. They needed to make it simple for their employees to update web content. IC9design restructured their original website using the brand guidelines of Cornell University. They added a multilevel main navigation and “jump to” menus to get visitors to different sections of the site quickly.
“It’s a big site and the content on the previous website took a good chunk of time to update,” said Ian Caspersson, Owner and Creative Director of IC9design. “If something is hard to find, you run the risk of losing visitors. Attention spans just aren’t what they used to be, so we implemented the new navigation in order to make locating a topic or section as convenient for the user as possible. The addition of more spots for imagery was another benefit. CCE has some gorgeous photos in their archive.”
IC9design created a backend administration system for employees to update their own content. The system uses the IC9design customized content management solution. The CMS will make adding and editing online content, changing images, and posting forms and documents easy for all users regardless of web experience. When CCE employees log in to the admin center, they are able to find the page that needs editing, create a new page, or delete a page that is no longer needed with ease.
“Our previous website was well-done as far as organization was concerned, but updates proved to be challenging,” said Jim Ochterski, Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Leader. “So many people turn to Cornell Cooperative Extension for good information and our previous design was not allowing us good responsiveness. The new system makes immediate updates possible and practical. It’s gotten the attention of many users in just the past week or two.”
"A big mistake many businesses make is paying a web design company to build an attractive website without their needs in mind,” said Ian Caspersson. “Sure, it may look incredible, but if you’re not very experienced in web development, updating content is going to make you want to rip your hair out. Since CCE is constantly making changes to their content, we knew a CMS would allow all their employees to immediately modify and upload site content without weeks of training. Systems like this cost more up-front, but in the long run, they make things much easier for the site owner and the cost savings over time are impressive. You’d be amazed how much you can save when you’re not spending money on extensive training or paying an outside developer to make updates for you.”
