Quality of Access Point, Solid Coverage, Ease of Use, Total Cost of Ownership Were Key Determinants in the Selection of Aerohive

[Aerohive] exceeded our expectations in terms of AP performance and coverage, as well as gave us the ease of use we needed in terms of deployment, manageability and end-user access.

Aerohive Networks, creators of the award-winning cooperative control wireless LAN (WLAN) architecture, announced today that Appleton Area School District (AASD) has selected Aerohive to facilitate the District’s commitment to using technology to provide its students with the best possible learning environment. When fully deployed, AASD will have 725 Access Points (AP) in use. AASD is located in Wisconsin and serves more than 15,000 students.

“While the methods and tools we have used change to meet the standards of the time, our 157-year commitment to offering our students a rich educational experience has never wavered,” said Jim Hawbaker, Technology Director of Appleton Area School District. “In today’s environment, safe, secure and reliable access to the Internet over our wireless network is essential to providing the best possible education to our students.”

In selecting a WLAN partner, AASD was looking for an easy to use solution that provided superior performance and solid coverage. Each vendor had to show that its offering could meet the needs of the District’s flexible environment of the future. In addition, to increase access and control costs, AASD will allow students to use their own laptops and personal computing devices. Thus, a simple to manage end-user interface that could authenticate according to pre-determined policies was critical.

“Aerohive’s innovative WLAN solution best met the needs of our forward looking School District,” continued Hawbaker. “It exceeded our expectations in terms of AP performance and coverage, as well as gave us the ease of use we needed in terms of deployment, manageability and end-user access.”

Aerohive’s enterprise-class WLAN solution is built on its cooperative control WLAN architecture. The technology combines an enterprise-class access point with a suite of cooperative control protocols and functions that delivers the full benefits associated with controller-based WLANs – but without the additional burden and cost of hardware controllers or an overlay network.
