Hudson Valley Media Group announced today that it will begin charging in September for online access to The Times Herald-Record’s comprehensive coverage of the Hudson Valley and Catskills region.

Beginning Sept. 14, 2010, Recordonline.com will offer an on-demand, Print + Online subscription. This new subscription combines the print edition, additional online news and information, and our eEdition, to bring the consumer compelling local content not available anywhere else. Current print subscribers will have free online access until their next renewal. For more information subscribers can go to: http://www.recordonline.com/preview. Subscribers will need to register for free access beginning Sept. 14th.

“Recordonline.com has established its value with readers and advertisers in the communities it serves,” said Joe Vanderhoof, president of Hudson Valley Media Group and publisher of The Times Herald-Record. “This shift asks readers to recognize that value irrespective of whether they read the newspaper in print or online.”

Print subscribers will be offered discounted rates to add the digital content to their subscription: The Print + Online subscription will cost only 39 cents per week more than the print subscription. Print-only and online combination subscriptions will also be available.

“The community can continue to rely on the dedicated journalists who deliver the news and information that has made the Record and our website the preferred choice for news in the Hudson Valley,” Vanderhoof said. “With Recordonline.com, that news isn’t just online. It is fair, balanced and representative of the community it comes from. That’s not something you can get just anywhere on the Web.”

The Record is introducing new subscription packages that will combine the best of our print and digital news options. These new options are designed to meet the reader’s lifestyle and news consumption habits.

With the Print + Online subscription, subscribers will have unlimited access to digital content via laptop, desktop, smart phone, simple text alerts and email, in addition to the daily newspaper. This subscription will give the reader full content no matter how frequently they sign on. Without one of these subscriptions the number of times Hudson Valley Media Group content can be accessed will be limited.
