If you were a baby boomer or younger you probably remember seeing your mother cutting coupons out of the local newspaper every Wednesday and she may have kept them all neatly in a small accordion style folder that she kept them in until it was shopping day when she piled all the kids into the family station wagon and off to the local supermarket you went. Then there were the Sunday circulars which announced big "one day only sales at the local TV & Appliance or department store and Pop drool over that Philco console stereo or if he was a bit more progressive, a big sale down at the water bed store. Well, those huge console Stereos and been replaced by the IPod Nano, the local owned TV & Appliance store has long since been crushed out of existence by national chain "box stores" and internet websites have all but decimated that last bastion of civilized journalism the newspaper .
A recent article on Inc. Magazine's web edition stated that as consumers slash their budgets and newspaper subscriptions continue to slide, more people are turning to the Internet for coupons. That's good news for entrepreneurs leading the charge to move coupons online. According to a recent survey of 4,500 women by Burlington, Massachusetts-based online ad network Burst Media, coupon usage is up, and more consumers are turning to the Internet as their source. Thirty-four percent of respondents report using more coupons, while the rate of online users has jumped since 2002, from 3.8 to 16 percent.
