O2 Living and The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester Team-up for National School Lunch Week

To celebrate National School Lunch Week (October 11-15) o2 Living, a natural health and wellness community offering a café, therapeutic massage, dietary cleanses, all natural skin treatments and products, yoga, and meditation classes in Cross River, joined forces with the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester in Mount Kisco to teach children the importance of not only eating nutritious meals, but drinking nutritious drinks.

During an interactive workshop, o2 Living’s executive chef, Tom Donnelly, talked to the children about nutrition and the healthy local ingredients being grown in the Hudson Valley. Children also enjoyed samples of Chef Tom’s berry smoothies – a nutritious and delicious alternative to artificially flavored berry beverages that may contain excessive amounts of sugar.

“It is important for children to learn about making healthy food and beverage choices at a young age,” said Tom Donnelly, executive Chef, o2 Living. “We enjoyed the opportunity to work with the Club’s preschoolers and teach them about nutrition.”

Children’s nutrition is taking a front seat on Capitol Hill, with government working to create healthier standards for school lunches. In addition, the 2008 Nestle Feeding Infants and Toddlers Study reveals 25 percent of older infants, toddlers and preschoolers don’t consume a single serving of fruit on a given day, and 30 percent don’t consume a single serving of vegetables.

“We appreciate Chef Tom and the o2 Living team taking the time to work with our preschoolers during National School Lunch Week,” said Brian Skanes, executive director, Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester. “It is great to see the kids excited about nutrition and engaged in lessons that will help them to maintain a healthy lifestyle in the years to come.”
