AAHSA Annual Meeting and Expo – Talyst Inc. will demonstrate its InSiteRx™ Remote Dispensing System as an exhibitor this week at the Association of Homes and Services for the Aging Annual Meeting and Expo. The remote medication dispensing model, already in use by AAHSA members across the country, helps long-term care facilities address resident care and nurse satisfaction priorities.
Developed on a powerful foundation of hardware and pharmacy automation software, the remote dispensing system distributes medications in patient-specific multi-dose packages, right before a medication pass, reducing the opportunity for error. It also dramatically cuts nursing time otherwise spent on mundane medication tasks, providing nurses with more time to improve the quality of care and life for their residents.
“Above anything, AAHSA members want the best quality of life possible for their residents and this affects every decision they make – right down to medication distribution models,” said Carla Corkern, Talyst CEO. “We have been welcomed into this community for that reason. Our technology isn’t just a pharmacy model that satisfies basic requirements of health reform, it changes our customers’ lives, giving them back time that they can spend with residents.”
The recently-passed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (March 23, 2010) mandates the use of specific uniform dispensing techniques, “such as weekly, daily, or automated dose dispensing” to reduce waste in LTC. While facilities in this market will have many options for satisfying the new requirements, InSiteRx is unique in that the pharmacy automation technology virtually eliminates medication waste – and at the same time, and more impactful to operations, it gives nurses more time to perform other tasks, making the quality of residents lives better.
Talyst is engineering the safer pharmacy. The company was founded in 2002 to provide automated medication management systems to acute care hospital pharmacies. The following year Talyst launched AutoPharm®, the innovative software platform designed to drive a complete suite of medication storage, packaging, refrigeration, and barcoding hardware.
As of 2010, Talyst has installed automated systems in more than 500 acute care hospitals, integrated healthcare companies, long-term care facilities, and corrections facilities. Talyst is dedicated to delivering world-class software and proven hardware components to enhance efficiency, provide greater inventory control, and improve patient safety in all care environments.
