New Book Offers Readers a Vivid Look into the Development of the Big Dalton Canyon Dam

Xlibris, the leading print-on-demand self-publishing services provider, announced today the release of Glendora’s Backyard Big Dalton Canyon, a new book authored by Lahla M. Keiser.

Glendora’s Backyard Big Dalton Canyon is a photo collection that emphasizes details of events and social norms from the past. It focuses on the San Gabriel Mountains located within the range of the Sierra Madre Mountains. Readers will look back to the time prior to the development of the Metropolitan Water District, when southern California communities drilled wells that tapped into the water table fed by the runoff from the mountains. Los Angeles County addressed the community’s problems by constructing flood control dams in carefully selected canyons. The primary purpose of these structures was to control flooding in the Los Angeles basin, and to hold water for seepage into the ground. The stored water helped keep the water table up so the wells would not go dry.

Along the way, this book reveals stories of different members of the community – how they dealt with the trials back then, how their lives were affected, and more. These recollections are told through the views of H. Paul Keiser, who worked as caretaker of the Big Dalton Canyon Dam (Big Dalton Dam) in the mid 1930’s.

With very rich details, Glendora’s Backyard Big Dalton Canyon will give readers a close look at southern California history. Its memoirs explain the means by which specific lessons (safety, scientific, literary, etc.) were learned.
