I later found out that what really caused Kerry's wild reaction wasn't so apparent; As Brian disappeared up her wedding dress, his boutonniere's pin had pricked Kerry's inner thigh, a moment captured in my award winning image.

Winning an award from the WPJA is a tough accomplishment for most members, and something wedding photojournalists strive for in their careers. Winning 3 in the same year is even more of a milestone, which is exactly what Alejo Pesce, of Flutterphoto, accomplished in 2009. "The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) is a professional organization composed of photojournalists and wedding photographers from around the world. What sets our members apart in the industry is their candid, documentary approach – a distinctly artistic vision toward wedding photography." The WPJA was founded in 2002 and is designed to celebrate the photographers who discover the moment.
The first award, placing 15th in the “Dancing” category, came from Krishna and Sneha’s wedding in Bangladore, India. Making this the furthest Flutterphoto has ever traveled for a shoot; Theresa and Alejo documented the beautiful ceremonies, harmonic traditions, and colorful cultures, which encompass a Hindu wedding. Lasting 4 days, and hosting almost 500 guests, this wedding has easily become their paramount.
The second award, placing 13th in the “Bouquet/Garter” category, came from Kerry and Brian’s wedding on the Odyssey Cruise on the Potomac River. Always a playful couple, Kerry and Brian were especially in high spirits on their wedding day. When it came time to retrieve the garter, Brian enthusiastically dove in headfirst and scored big points for style and creativity. Kerry directed Brian's advance with seemingly gleeful shouts of her own excitement and surprise. "I later found out that what really caused Kerry's wild reaction wasn't so apparent; As Brian disappeared up her wedding dress, his boutonniere's pin had pricked Kerry's inner thigh, a moment captured in my award winning image." Alejo said.
His third award came in the category “Kids Being Kids” from Tenille and Eric’s wedding in Columbia, MD. Despite all the rain they had been having, this wedding day could not have been more perfect, and once the reception kicked off, everyone remained on the dance floor throughout the rest of the evening. The photograph placed 18th in the WPJA’s International Q1 Gallery Contest. Alejo had only joined the WPJA the previous quarter before placing in the 2009 Q1 contest, demonstrating his photojournalistic talent to its fullest potential.
Flutterphoto international wedding photography is owned and run by Alejo Pesce and his wife, Theresa Monturano. Flutter Photo is the proud recipient of Wedding Wire “Brides Choice Awards” for 2009, 2010, as well as WPJA (Wedding Photojournalistic Association) Q1 & Q4 2009 award winner.
