Whois® has released new web based tools to help protect internet shoppers in the lead up to Christmas.
They're also accessible through the Whois® domain registration search found at http://www.whois.com.au/.
Internet shoppers just type the name of the site they want to check, select the extension, and press search.
If the domain is registered, a set of links will return and you'll be able to a WHOIS query, a TRACEROUTE, and DNS Lookups on the IP and the address.
In the past, these tools were used purely on the command line by sys admins or network admins.
By making these tools browser based, Whois® has made the domain ownership, hosting and network details more public than they would be otherwise.
Whois® hopes that these new tools will make it will be harder for criminals to trick shoppers with phishing scams and bogus websites as we move towards Christmas.
"Tools like this have been used by System Administrators worldwide for many years. By adding these new browser based query tools at Whois®, we're trying to make that very helpful public dns and trace information, available to a much wider audience."
Whois® is one Australia's leading Australian Domain Registration companies.
