Designer Shoe E-tailer, Downtowngal Shoes Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

In 2001, Downtowngal Shoes began its humble roots in a small townhome located near Chicago's Old Town neighborhood selling small quantities of designer women's shoes on eBay. Ten years later, the e-tailer has grown to selling over 15 different women's and men's designer brands across 65 countries.

What started as a desire to bring lower prices to women's designer footwear grew into a thriving business model that has weathered the dot com boom, 9/11, and two economic downturns. In 2001, Downtowngal Shoe founders believed that the glam of Hollywood and starlet exposure had artificially inflated the reality of designer shoe pricing. The founders set out to level expectations and provide an outlet for high-end designer shoes without designer prices.

Today, the Denver based company has found its niche with inventory targeted toward "distinctive designer" brands such as Gucci, Hogan, Manolo Blahnik, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Tod's. With pricing roughly 40% off the full retail price, customers across the globe have found value in what Downtowngal Shoe provides.

Throughout the past 10 years the landscape of e-commerce has changed dramatically, from clunky gateway processing portals, to robust, real-time inventory management applications. From the onset, Downtowngal Shoes chose eBay as their primary distribution channel for managing inventory, customer service, and purchasing processing. As the shoe business grew, so did eBay. After 10 years, Downtowngal Shoes still manages, processes, and fulfulls 100% of their inventory through eBay.
