Give2Asia, a US-based public charity promoting transformative philanthropy for Asia, today announces a new partnership with Afghan Connection to improve access to education and health for nearly 100,000 children, youth, and young adults throughout Afghanistan.
“Afghan Connection works in some of the most difficult conditions imaginable to help build schools and provide access to education for Afghan children,” said Ray Klinke, Give2Asia’s Interim CEO. “We believe the health and well-being of Afghan children is an issue dear to many US donors and look forward to connecting them with Afghan Connection’s excellent programs.”
Through her medical visits to the country during the Russian War and subsequent Taliban regime, Dr. Sarah Fane saw how education opportunities for children were scarce, especially for young girls. She founded Afghan Connection in 2002 in order to provide easier access to education. To date, the organization has built 32 schools and supported various health projects and sports activities across the country.
In 2011, the organization will concentrate its work within the four valleys in the North East region of country, which has a total population of 70,000. Plans include building and equipping schools, as well as funding the running of 30 community-based schools, funding teacher trainings, and providing capacity building for local education authorities.
U.S. donors can make tax-deductible donations online to Give2Asia in support of Afghan Connection at http://www.give2asia.org/afghanconnection, or by sending donations to “Give2Asia” by check, wire, or securities transfer.
A Give2Asia Fiscal Sponsorship partnership helps approved Asia-based charitable groups establish a U.S. presence, provides professional donor stewardship, and makes possible tax-deductible support for Asia-based groups. Give2Asia currently provides fiscal sponsorship to over 100 charitable institutions across the Asia-Pacific region.
Give2Asia combines exceptional stewardship with comprehensive, on-the-ground knowledge to promote actions benefiting Asian communities. Founded by The Asia Foundation, with more than 50 years of grant-making experience in the Asia-Pacific region, Give2Asia helps overcome the common challenges associated with giving overseas and has allowed for over US$150 million in donations since its inception in 2001.
