Salon Success Academies Continues a Family Tradition

Salon Success Academies, a beauty school in the Inland Empire, held their second annual “All About Family Event.” The day included free beauty services, gifts, and food for families from the Foothill Family Shelter and drew over 50 participants and 60 volunteers.

On Sunday, December 19, 2010, Salon Success Academies was full of families continuing a tradition that was started last year. The All About Family event was held at the beauty school in conjunction with the Family Foothills Shelter and offered families from the shelter an opportunity to enjoy the holiday season through generous donations for Salon Success Academies students and staff. 29 adults, 43 children, and 60 volunteers spent the day at Salon Success Academies enjoying the festivities.

Each family from the shelter was paired up with a student volunteer. These hosts and hostesses guided the families through the exciting day, making sure that everyone had what they needed, and watching the kids while mom and dad relaxed. Every family member received free beauty services – everything from haircuts to facials to manicures and makeup.

While the parents were receiving their services, the kids played with our family hosts, decorating cookies, painting ceramic tiles, and drawing reindeer pictures. They also watched holiday movies and munched on popcorn from SSA’s popcorn machine!

A special guest of honor also attended the All About Family event. Santa Clause stopped by to hand out gifts to all of the children! Salon Success Academies students had been fundraising for weeks, raising money to purchase toys for all of the children who attended the event. The kids weren’t the only ones who received presents though. Each family received a bag of non-perishable food and a $25 gift card to the Stater Brothers grocery store.

In addition to the toys and food, there was one more special gift that each family received. A professional photographer was on hand to take pictures of each family. Each portrait will be printed and framed as a keepsake for the families.

“This is our second year hosting this event, and it really brings tears to the eyes of our students and staff,” said Susan Turner, Vice President of Salon Success Academies. “Participating in an event like this, giving their time and talent, is a great life lesson for our students, and we’re happy to offer them the chance to give back to the community.”
