Barkitecture is on its way, and this year, it's taking a tropical turn! The annual fundraiser for the Humane Society of the North Bay (formerly Benicia Vallejo Humane Society) "Goes Hawaiian", and participants will be able to join in with what they wear, what they build, and how they pa'ina (party).

Barkitecture is not just two great fundraising events, it is also a competition in which local businesses, community groups, neighborhood groups and individuals compete to create unique, custom designed dog domiciles, dog and cat furniture, bird roosts and multiple pet domiciles. The festivities include music, catered cuisine, a premium raffle and a grand silent and live auction of items created exclusively for Barkitecture through gifts generously donated.

Form a hui of makamaka's (team of friends) and construct an entry for Barkitecture's Pet Domicile Competition. Contest guidelines and entry forms are available by emailing HSNB's Humane Services Director Peter Wilson at plwilson(at)hsnb(dot)org or visit http://www.barkitecture.net. Team registration forms are due by March 4, 2011.

The goal of Barkitecture "Goes Hawaiian" is to raise much-needed operational funds to care for the animals and for outreach to build awareness of the plight of the many homeless dogs, cats, other animals available for adoption at the Humane Society of the North Bay. HSNB has been able to increase the number of animals cared for thanks to the support of the North Bay community through on-going volunteer efforts and the donations, which support the shelter's work--and HSNB is extremely grateful for everyone's support.
