The NHRA Museum in Pomona, California, is presenting a series of educational workshops as part of the exhibit; Axes & Axles: The Art of Building Cars and Guitars, Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Fender Telecaster. The exhibit celebrates the close association held between hot rods, custom cars and rock-n-roll. The exhibit which features an exciting display of famous vehicles, memorabilia and the guitars of such names as Michael Anthony (Founding member of Van Halen and Chickenfoot), Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and more.
It has taken a blend of musicians, builders, fabricators, artists, designers, craftsman and marketers to help build the association between the world of custom cars and rock. The NHRA Museum has gathered a group of industry icons to discuss how each contributed to this exciting and creative world. “Rock and hot rods have always been the art of bad boys, the trendsetters and from that an entire culture has evolved. Having been one of the individuals who has help to shape this lifestyle is exciting,” states Brad Fanshaw, President bonspeed Wheels. Fanshaw is a featured presenter along with Chip Foose, Jimmy Shine, Roy Brizio, Paul Waller and Scott Buehl of Fender and Billy Ganahl.
Fanshaw was business partners with the late Boyd Coddington in Hot Rods by Boyd and Boyds Wheels. Boyd and Brad created one of the most memorabilia, hot rod guitars of all time. The bass was machined entirely of billet aluminum and embodies all the elements of a hot rod. Designed and built for Fanshaw’s friend and current business partner Michael Anthony (Van Halen/Chickenfoot), Fanshaw will present the story of how this bass was conceived, created and built. Additionally, he will present the link between the Boyd built “Fire Roadster” hot rod and the matching flamed bass.
